Deer-Horn Cactus ( Peniocereus greggii)
Hi Guys,
Today we are going to talk about the real queen of all the plants.
Usually we and the poets,the writers compare girls to ,moon ,roses,honey,sugar, and the list goes on... but
I think we should compare the God's most beautiful creature,the woman's to a much more elegant beautiful creature and which I think is the plant Penicereus greggii or the Deer Horn Cactus coz this plant has the most flower.
And maybe that is why they are called the Queens of night.
It is desert plant which, for most of the year appears as a dead bush.
But during nights of midsummer they bloom. These flowers open only at night and closes with the morning sun. The plant bear large creamy white flowers on a log curved stalk.
They have an intoxicating smell, that can wake you up from deep sound (or snoring) sleep.
Tubers are considered to be edible and said to have potato like taste.
If you want to grow it, use its stem cuttings.
We used to have this plant at our Kerala house and I feel lucky in this ,coz very few get a chance to see this exotic plant and experience it.
So guys if you want to impress your girl( / daughter/wife) start calling her Peniocereus gregii or the more easy one Deer Horn Cactus...
