SWADDLED BABY PLANT: A PLANT WITH FLOWERS MIMICKING BABIES IN A CRADLE

Anguloa uniflora - again an orchid found at heights of Venezuela,Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru.
The plant is largely terrestrial with fleshy pseudobulbs and from the base of each pseudobulb arise 2 to 3 long ,plicate leaves. 


Each inflorescence has a single flower which develops the base of the pseudobulb.
The flowers are white and waxy with hinged lips which push the insects towards the pollinia of flower ensuring  a successful pollination.





















The characteristic feature of this plant is that at the time of opening the  flower appears like a  baby wrapped in a swaddling cloth making it one of the unique and exotic plant .
